Custom Phrase Hats
Finding a Need
Have you ever walked into a gas station or novelty shop and noticed a rack of hats with sayings like "Come At Me Bro!" or "Make My Day!"? They are hilarious! However, after a couple of uses the novelty typically wears off and the $15 hat goes up on the shelf to collect dust. So, Jon started thinking....."What if we could design a hat that could have a different phrase every day?"...and "Word Up Hats" were born!
Scope of Project
When we began working with Jon he had what was in theory a very simple invention. Our goal was to develop a hat from a material that was strong enough to look and function just like a regular baseball cap but that also was soft enough to work with velcro letters while also being durable for hundreds or thousands of uses. Finding the right materials that would meet these requirements proved more challenging than initially expected.
Material Research & Testing
The first round of material research and testing did not provide a satisfactory solution. After a significant amount of additional material research and testing we were finally able to identify and test a material that met these requirements. and made a series of prototypes/product samples.
Product Samples & Market Tests
Once the material and cap design was approved by Jon, DCP created several product samples and shipped them to Jon. Once Jon received his samples he performed some test markets and he is determining if and how to best move forward with the manufacturing and launch of his new product.
